Kikole Hati: Imitating God’s Goodness Through Forgiveness

Dear Awesome and children to come,

Today, on February 9, 2025, at the 8am service at All Saints Church Nakasero, we experienced a powerful reminder of how we are called to imitate God’s goodness through forgiveness. Led by Rev. Capt. Florence, the service centered on the theme “Imitating God’s Goodness Through Forgiveness,” with readings from Jonah 3:1-10 and Matthew 6:9-15.

We were encouraged to focus on God’s promises, especially His promise of forgiveness. In the service, we learned that forgiveness isn’t just about pardoning an offender it is about letting go, as the Greek word for forgiveness suggests.

Importantly, to truly receive God’s forgiveness, we must first be willing to forgive others. Scriptures such as Luke 11:4 remind us that forgiving is in God’s nature, and that understanding His character on a personal level is key to fully embracing forgiveness.

During the service.

The preacher explained that forgiveness can be challenging, yet it remains essential. God has loved us so much that He forgives us unconditionally, and in turn, we are expected to extend that same grace to others. Verses from 1 John 1:8-9 and John 1:12 remind us that as children of God, we are given a new life, one that is free from the burdens of resentment and bitterness.

The story of Jonah served as a striking example. Jonah’s struggle with forgiveness, especially his bitterness towards the repentant Ninevites, illustrates how difficult it can be to let go of anger. However, just as God gave Jonah a second chance when he remembered and turned to the Lord (Jonah 2:7 and Jonah 3), He also forgives us when we turn back to Him.

After the sermon, there was a special opportunity for anyone who needed to release or forgive someone. Those who felt the need to let go of past hurts came forward, and we prayed with them as a community, reinforcing the healing power of forgiveness.

At this moment, the trumpet was blown three times, symbolizing a war cry and a declaration of victory as we completed 40 days of fasting and prayer.

Today’s service reminded us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Just as the Ninevites experienced transformation when they repented and received God’s mercy, we too can experience healing and renewal when we let go of our grudges and extend forgiveness.

If you missed the live service or would like to watch it again, you can view the recorded service here:

After church, I always make it a point to watch the service at Adamant Believers Council led by Pastor G Craige Lewis of EX Ministries in the USA. His message, titled “He Deserves Our Thanksgiving,” is truly uplifting.

I encourage you to watch this 24 minute sermon here:

It will further inspire you to reflect on God’s blessings and the importance of gratitude.

May the lessons of forgiveness, love, and thanksgiving remain in your hearts as you go about your day.

Your loving father,

Tukundane Yonna
