My dear son Awesome and children to come,
It is very bad today to see grown-ups going to bathrooms, toilets, washrooms, and restrooms—places where one goes to ease themselves—while carrying a thermoflask, a water bottle, and, in some of my most shocking moments, even a piece of food like a cake, bread, or snacks. This is very unhygienic, and I beg you to avoid this barbaric act. Let me be clear: I do not participate in this behavior, and I urge you not to either.
I was in the men’s urinals when a man walked in, stood by me, and began his business while munching on a snack in one of the big shopping malls in Kampala. I have also seen that the men keep sipping on drinks as they enter these spaces, only to continue with the same drink when they leave. I see this habit not only in men but in ladies too. Some carry water bottles everywhere and snack—just as those men I mentioned do. Every time this happens, I wonder: where did this habit start? Is it because our parents or teachers did not teach us well, or is it that society no longer cares—or are we simply copying these bad habits from somewhere else?
My parents always drew a clear line for us about where to eat and the routine one must follow before touching food. Looking back, that routine kept the doctor away, and we grew up healthy—glory to God. I am not saying I was the best child or that we never gave our parents headaches as they taught us how to live.
Dear adults, we need to change and stop this very bad behavior. Let us start with ourselves, because children copy what grown-ups do. Men and women, please stop taking food, water bottles, thermoflasks, or open drinks into these places. We do not need doctors to remind us that these are unclean spots where germs can grow and make us sick. Let us be good examples for the generations to come.
Now, my dear ones, let us stand together and fight against these unhygienic habits. It is very bad, and by choosing cleanliness and care, we protect ourselves and our future. I stand firmly against this behavior, and I call upon you to do the same—for your health and for the children who will follow in our footsteps.
The End
