On November 29, 2024, the Rotary Club of Upper Kololo, where I’m proud to be a charter member, hosted the Southern Get Together at The Gardens in Najeera, Kampala. You may be wondering, what exactly is the Southern Get Together? Allow me to explain, as I share what happened and what’s next.

The Southern Get Together is a gathering of Rotary and Rotaract Clubs that were established by the Rotary Club of Kampala South. These include the Rotary Clubs of Kyambogo, Kampala-Maisha, Kampala Springs, Upper Kololo, Kajjansi, Uptown Kampala In-formation, as well as the Rotaract Clubs of Kampala South and Upper Kololo. Additionally, the Provisional Rotary Club of Environment and Climate Action and the Rotary Club of First Aid and Emergency Care Response (in formation) are also part of the event.
Initially, attendees were seated according to their respective clubs, but Rtn. Charles Odaga took the microphone and encouraged everyone to mingle and connect. I witnessed this firsthand, as Rtn. Gilbert from Rotary Club of Upper Kololo interacted with members from other clubs, while Rtn. Mbeki from Rotary Club of Kampala Springs engaged with many of the attendees. The event was further honored by the presence of past district governors and the District 9213 Governor-Elect, Rtn. Geoffrey Kitakule.

As for me, I was busy capturing the event on camera. As a creature of habit, I was recording videos with my DJI Pocket 3, DJI Action 4, and flying my DJI Mini 4 Pro to create a video for Rotary Club of Upper Kololo. This time, the video project was different. I shot in DLog M, which meant I would be color grading the footage myself. It was also my first time shooting at night with only available light in a dimly lit setting. To make things even more interesting, I flew the drone at night for the first time and edited the footage in DaVinci Resolve on my iPad, which was also a first for me. The video is now online, so please watch it, hear from our president, and check out the product of all these first-time experiences. Don’t forget to leave a comment.
During the event, a raffle draw was held, and it was announced that the next Southern Get Together will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Kampala South. At Rotary Club of Upper Kololo, we gather every Friday from 1-2 pm at Roma Dymz. We’d love for you to join us. Thank you for reading, and I look forward to your comments. See you in another story!
